A Walk with Peter Cardew

The Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery at UBC was originally designed by legendary Vancouver-based architect Peter Cardew back in 1994. Vancouver Design Week 2018 provided a rare opportunity for event attendee's to get a private tour around the building with Peter himself, as he reminisced about the design process, and shared candid stories of the private struggles and joys inherent in realizing any project of this scale. A gracious host, he was only too happy to answer questions and share insights into he creative process.

My intent with the event coverage photography was to capture not only the building's space and light, but also the interaction of it with the one who defined its design. It was an enjoyable, slow-paced event, shared with an architect who remains incredibly passionate about his work as when it first was finished.
